Siena College was established in 1940 as an independent, Catholic school for girls in Years 7 to 12. The Dominican Sisters who founded the College built a school where young people could be inspired to follow their academic and cultural interests, believe in their potential and become passionate life long learners. It is a place where the diversity and unique gifts of the students in our care are acknowledged and celebrated, and where we aim to empower young people to go out and make a difference in the world.
The College motto, Veritas (Truth), connects us to our 800 year Dominican tradition. Our Truth searching is grounded in prayer and contemplation, a commitment to study, the relationships and strong sense of community that have long been a part of Siena’s heritage, and a commitment to justice.
Siena College is a learning community. We are committed to providing a challenging, enriching and supportive education in which all students are encouraged to maximise their potential and develop into confident and articulate young women. The learning program is designed to cater for the interests, needs and collaborative ways in which girls learn, guiding students to pursue their interests in any given field.
Siena College students are surrounded by strong female role models, in both their peers and alumnae, who encourage them to strive to achieve successful outcomes from their own efforts.
Secure, respectful and confident relationships at school enhance our students’ learning so they can experience a comprehensive and enriching education. The Siena College Wellbeing Team, which includes the Deputy Principal Wellbeing, Heads of House, Director of Students and the College Counsellors, provides support and education for both students and parents.
At Siena College we actively involve students in community activities and initiatives, and strive through all teaching and learning experiences to help our students learn the importance of their roles within our community and beyond the College gates. We actively seek to engage authentically with students so that their voices are heard.
Our Learning Framework ensures that our classrooms provide opportunity for our students to develop the necessary skills and behaviours where all can experience an environment of support and growth, enabling the establishment of respectful and collaborative relationships for all within our Siena community.
The learning program at Siena College is both dynamic and innovative, catering for the students’ spiritual, academic, social, emotional and physical development. Students are challenged to be creative, critical and reflective thinkers with a respect for evidence and openness of mind. Opportunities for both independent and collaborative learning are provided and contemporary technologies are integrated throughout the learning and teaching program. The learning environment caters for a diverse range of student abilities with specially tailored support programs and enrichment opportunities for highly able students.
In our commitment to providing a challenging and enriching education, we offer a STEAM unit as part of our Year 10 Elective Program. STEAM education involves the creation of curricula and pedagogies to develop students’ disciplinary knowledge and skills, as well as their abilities as critical consumers, creative and ethically astute citizens, innovative designers, good communicators and collaborative decision-makers. This unit is inter-disciplinary and integrates skills in research, learning and inquiry.
