Australia has had Lutheran schools ever since the first Lutheran settlers arrived in South Australia from Germany in 1839. Even before the South Australian government became formally involved in education, Lutheran communities established their own schools because they were concerned about the future of their children. They wanted to provide for the growth of their children spiritually, intellectually, socially and physically.
The Lutheran school system has since grown to be one of the largest networks of independent schools in Australia, currently educating over 42,000 students in 86 Lutheran schools and 57 Early Childhood Centres throughout Australia. Located in Wyndham, and continuing a 175-year tradition of Lutheran education in Australia, Good News Lutheran College is one of 16 Lutheran schools in Victoria.
The College has grown significantly from a small group of 24 students who commenced in 1997, to its first Year 12s graduating at the end of 2016.
Good News Lutheran College aims to provide an educational pathway for each student by focussing on strong Christian values. These values enable students to develop an understanding of the richness of life through the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Values empower them to be both successful learners and valuable members of the wider community.
Staff members of Good News Lutheran College share a vision of working with parents to support their children as they grow and develop. While offering support, teachers encourage students to take responsibility for their own decisions and to form their own attitudes and opinions about life.
The College curriculum is based on the Australian curriculum. Teachers are involved in curriculum development on a regular basis.
Support programs for disadvantaged students are a feature of Lutheran Schools and are provided when the need arises. Open-ended, investigative tasks cater for students of all abilities.
The staff are dedicated and experienced. They assist students to develop skills and encourage them to think creatively and critically.
